Give Yourself Permission to Dream Again ✨

There comes a point in life when dreaming can start to feel a little… childish.

Like vision boards are for teenagers, influencers, or people with perfectly labeled storage bins and matching gel pens.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are just trying to remember where we put our reading glasses, why we walked into the kitchen, and whether the laundry in the washer is from today or three days ago. 😅

But here’s what I’m learning:

Dreaming is not childish. Dreaming is necessary.

Without vision, we drift. We live on autopilot. We react to bills, responsibilities, schedules, people’s needs, and whatever crisis is currently shouting the loudest.

A vision gives us somewhere to go.

And a vision board? That is simply a way to put that vision in front of our eyes so we don’t forget where we’re headed.

You Will Not Leave Where You Are Until You Can See Somewhere Better

One of the biggest ideas in this PDF is this:

You usually will not move out of your current life until you can clearly see a better one.

That hit me.

Because many of us say we want change, but our minds are still full of the same old pictures:

The same stress.
The same debt.
The same body frustration.
The same relationship patterns.
The same “I’m too old” story.
The same “Maybe this is just how life is” resignation.

And if those are the only pictures playing in our minds, no wonder we feel stuck.

A vision board helps interrupt that.

It gives your brain, your heart, and your faith a new picture to focus on.

Not just “what is.”

But what could be.

A Vision Board Is Not Magic — Thank Goodness

Let’s clear this up.

A vision board is not a magical piece of poster board that somehow bullies the universe into delivering a beach house, a book deal, and thinner thighs by Thursday.

Although, honestly, if poster board could do that, Hobby Lobby would need security guards. 😂

A vision board works because it helps you get clear.

It helps you see your goals.
It helps you focus your attention.
It reminds you what you are believing for.
It keeps your future in front of you instead of buried under daily chaos.

It is not about worshiping pictures.

It is about creating a visual reminder of the direction you are choosing to walk in.

God Cares About Vision

This is what makes the Christian version of vision boards so powerful.

Vision is not just a trendy self-help idea. Scripture is full of vision.

God gave people pictures of what was ahead. He told Abraham to look at the stars and the sand as a picture of the promise. He used visible reminders to help people believe for something they could not yet hold in their hands.

That matters.

Because sometimes hearing a dream is not enough.

Sometimes we need to see it.

We need to see the healed family.
The debt-free life.
The stronger body.
The peaceful home.
The business.
The book.
The ministry.
The trip.
The new chapter.

Faith often begins with an inner picture.

Give Yourself Permission to Dream Bigger

Many women stop dreaming because life has disappointed them.

You may have dreamed before and been hurt.
You may have hoped and nothing changed.
You may have tried and failed.
You may have shared a dream and someone laughed.
You may have spent so many years taking care of everyone else that you forgot you were allowed to want anything.

But dreaming is not foolish.

Settling is the danger.

The PDF gives the reminder that some people start toward the “promised land,” but stop halfway because halfway feels comfortable enough. They taste a little success, a little safety, a little relief, and then they settle there.

And listen, comfort is lovely.

But comfort can also become a very pretty cage.

Sometimes “good enough” is the thing that keeps us from God’s best.

Don’t Ask “How?” Too Soon

This part is huge.

One of the fastest ways to kill a dream is to immediately ask:

“But how?”

How would I afford that?
How would I start over?
How would I write the book?
How would I lose the weight?
How would I get out of debt?
How would I build the business?
How would I possibly do that at my age?

The “how” question can be helpful later.

But at the beginning, it can be a dream assassin wearing sensible shoes.

Your first job is not always to know how.

Your first job is to believe, imagine, pray, clarify, and write it down.

The steps often come after the vision gets clear.

Your Thoughts Are Building Something

Another big idea from the PDF is that our thoughts matter.

What we repeatedly think about shapes what we believe. And what we believe affects what we pursue.

If you keep thinking:

“I’m too late.”
“I could never do that.”
“I’m not smart enough.”
“I’m not disciplined enough.”
“I’ve missed my chance.”

Then those thoughts quietly become limits.

But if you begin to think differently, you can begin to move differently.

This does not mean pretending life is perfect.

It means choosing not to let fear, disappointment, and old labels be the loudest voices in the room.

Your mind needs a new playlist.

Less: “I’m stuck forever.”
More: “God is not done with me yet.” 🎶

Your Life Is an Assignment

This may be my favorite idea.

Life is not just something to survive.

It is an assignment.

You have gifts.
You have experience.
You have wisdom.
You have stories.
You have scars that can become encouragement for someone else.
You have dreams that may not be random at all.

You are not here just to pay bills, fold towels, answer emails, and wonder why your knees sound like popcorn.

You are here on purpose.

And part of dreaming is asking:

“What has God placed in me?”
“What am I meant to build?”
“Who am I meant to help?”
“What would I regret not trying?”
“What future is pulling on me?”

You Are Not Too Old

The PDF ends with a beautiful reminder: age does not disqualify you.

People have started, created, achieved, invented, led, painted, performed, written, and changed history at every age.

So no, you are not too old.

Not at 40.
Not at 50.
Not at 65.
Not at 78.
Not even when you start making noises every time you stand up. That is not old. That is just your body adding sound effects. 😂

You can still dream.

You can still begin.

You can still become.

A Simple 7-Day Dreaming Exercise

For the next seven days, take ten quiet minutes each day.

No phone.
No TV.
No multitasking.
No scrolling through other people’s lives.

Just sit with God and imagine your future.

Ask yourself:

What do I want my life to look like five years from now?
What dream have I buried?
What would I do if fear was not making the decisions?
What would I love to create?
Where would I love to go?
Who do I want to become?
What would bring more peace, purpose, joy, and impact into my life?

Write it down.

Then start gathering images, words, scriptures, and reminders that represent that future.

Put them somewhere you will see them often.

Because life is loud. Vision needs repetition.

Final Thought: Dream It. See It. Walk Toward It.

A vision board is not about pretending.

It is about preparing.

It is about giving your faith something to focus on.

It is about reminding yourself that your past is not the only picture available.

There is more ahead.

More growth.
More healing.
More purpose.
More joy.
More courage.
More life.

So give yourself permission to dream again.

Not tiny, safe, “socially acceptable” dreams.

Big ones.

The kind that make you breathe deeply and think, “Oh my goodness… could that really be possible?”

That is where the adventure begins. ✨
